Flock 2.0 WOW!

I always associated Microsoft Internet Explorer with the Internet, much like you would "Google" something to find information on the internet regardless of the search engine you actually use, I always thought you got TO the internet via IE ONLY. Boy was I ever WRONG!!!

I just downloaded Flock 2.0 and boy are my eyes being opened! The ease of set up and the richness of the feature set have converted me. In fact, I have renewed my interest in blogging because Flock has made it so easy to post to my blog. Just navigate to your blog site, sign in and viola!, your account is set up and by simply pressing the "Post to My blog" button you can update the world on what you are thinking.

Excel Tip - Excel Paste Function

How many times have you had to paste data to your worksheet that was either calculated by a formula or contained formatting that you didn't want? Well, we all know that you can right click in order to choose paste special and then select to paste formulas, values, formatting or any combination of types of pasting. (If you didn't know that, consider it a bonus tip!), but there is an easier way and it takes ONE less keystroke! All you need to do is copy the data that you wish to paste and then select the arrow next to the paste tool on the menu bar and select the appropriate way you would like to paste the data.

Excel Tip - Worksheet Tabs

Do you have a workbook with alot of worksheet tabs and you want to get from the first to somewhere in the middle without having to scroll through every tab?  Well now you can.  If you right click on the arrow keys to the left of the worksheet tabs a list of all the sheets in the workbook will be visible and then you can left click on the sheet you want to jump to.

Excel Tip - Column Headings

When you make column headings do you use 3 or 4 rows because you need to cut off the words at specific points?  This might work for the text alignment but what if you want to use Data Filtering or sorting?  Excel requires a single header row for filtering, and sorting without a header row is sometimes tricky.  You can use ONE cell for your column heading and you can break the words where ever you wish by using <<ALT + ENTER>>.

Say you want to enter the column heading "Investment Purchases for the period Jan. - Jun." and your column width is 25.  If you type this into one cell and use "wrap text" to format the cell the words are shown on 2 lines and the first line is cut off after "the"  like this:

                                Investment Purchases for the
                                period Jan. - Jun.

What you really want is the text on 3 lines like this:

                                Investment Purchases
                                for the period
                                Jan. - Jun.

You can do this by typing the following in the cell

                                Investment Purchases <<ALT + ENTER>>
                                for the period <<ALT + ENTER>>
                                Jan. - Jun. <<ALT + ENTER>>

Then you can format the cells with center alignment and your heading is complete in one cell just the way you want it.
